Boy, 8, dies in accidental shooting in Cincinnati

An 8-year-old boy died from a gunshot wound Saturday and Cincinnati police say the boy's older brother accidentally shot him.

Officers and emergency crews responded at 4:15 p.m. to a home on La Salle Avenue in the East Price Hill neighborhood.

Officers found the victim, Sammy Lorenzo, lying on his back in the kitchen area suffering from a single gunshot wound in his chest, Cincinnati Sgt. Jim Perkins told our news partner WCPO Ch. 9.

Perkins said the child was initially alert and conscious, but was later pronounced dead at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

Sammy and two of his brothers, ages 9 and 10, were visiting their 19-year-old uncle, who was questioned by police.

Perkins said one of the brothers pulled the trigger. He characterized the incident as an accidental shooting.

No charges were filed as of late Saturday night.
