Charges dropped, reduced in MU dorm assault

OXFORD — Charges were dropped or reduced against three men accused of assaulting and robbing students inside a Miami University dorm.

The charges stemmed from an April 30 incident, where a Miami University student reported three men entered his Stanton Hall dorm and assaulted people inside and stole cash, according to a crime alert issued at the time. Two more people were also allegedly assaulted as the suspects fled the residence hall.

A Butler County grand jury dismissed felony robbery and aggravated burglary charges in the case, according to a report released June 29.

David Shavers, a Miami University student, will face two misdemeanor charges of assault in Butler County Area I Court. Felony charges of robbery and aggravated burglary against him were turned down by the grand jury, which meets in private.

A felony charge of aggravated burglary was also dropped against Ryan Shavers, who does still face one misdemeanor count of assault, according to the report.

Felony aggravated burglary and robbery charges were dropped against Rayjay Compton, according to the report.
