Child hit near Arcanum-Butler Schools still in ICU

The 13-year-old girl hit by a vehicle Friday morning in front of Arcanum-Butler Schools remained in the Intensive Care Unit at Dayton Children's Hospital, her family said late Friday night.

She suffered at least two fractures to her skull in the accident that was reported just before 7:30 a.m.

Few details of the crash have been released, but a one-call message to parents identified the student as a seventh-grader and asked everyone to pray for her full recovery.

News Center 7's John Bedell reports that the girl was struck at Main Street and Ivester Lane, as middle school and high school students were making their morning commute to the school building before the elementary students.

School administrators say the girl and the crossing guard were following protocols when the girl was hit.

There has been no word from Arcanum police about the accident.

Late Friday night, a family member said a sergeant with the Arcanum Police Department said there was no probable cause to detain the woman who was driving the car that hit the girl. The same family member said the family is raising questions about how fast the car was traveling at the time of the accident.
