Clayton man sent to prison in aggravated murder case

A 20-year-old Clayton man was sentenced this morning for his role in a murder that sent a co-defendant to death row.

Timothy Mosley was sentenced to life in prison for the aggravated murder of 18-year-old Justin Back in January at Back’s home outside Waynesville.

Mosley’s co-defendant, Austin Myers, 19, was already sentenced to the death penalty in the case.

Mosley avoided the death penalty by testifying agains t Myers.

Mosley admitted stabbing Back 21 times during a robbery at the home, then dumping the body in Preble County.

Before the sentencing, Mosley apologized to Back’s parents, Mark and Sandy Cates.

“I really am sorry for what I have done. There’s no excuses. I keep asking myself why I did it. I just can’t give you that answer right now,” Mosley said. ” There’s not a day that goes by that it doesn’t haunt me.”

Judge Donald Oda also sentenced Mosley to another 19 years in prison for robbery, abuse of a corpse, safecracking and other charges in the case.
