Congressman's son found guilty

OXFORD — U.S. House Rep. Steve Chabot’s son, Brandon “Randy” Chabot, was found guilty of making false alarms and criminal trespassing Thursday in Butler County Arena I Court.

He was sentenced to a total of 210 days in the jail, and all 210 days were suspended. He was also fined a total of $1,250 plus court costs.

Chabot, a Miami University student, originally had been charged with breaking and entering after officers responded to a fire alarm at the McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital annex on Morning Sun Road on the morning of Feb. 5.

The police report said they found Chabot outside and he was described as intoxicated. Police found two window panes that had been kicked out with marks they said matched Chabot’s shoes.

Making false alarms is a first-degree misdemeanor. For that conviction Chabot was sentenced to 180 days in jail and a $1,500 fine plus court costs of $125. All 180 days and $500 of the fine were suspended.

Chabot must pay a fine of $250 plus the $125 court costs for the criminal trespassing, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. He also must pay restitution of $327.52 to McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital and $214.53 to the Oxford Fire Department. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail for the trespassing charge and all 30 were suspended.

Steve Chabot has represented the 1st District (Butler and Hamilton counties) for 15 years.
