The theft had been investigated by Cracker Barrel’s regional loss prevention department, and according to a Middletown police report, Criffield allegedly had been “voiding receipts and taking small amounts of money over the period of several years.”
Criffield pleaded not guilty today during an arraignment in Middletown Municipal Court and the case was bound over to the Warren County grand jury. He is out on his own recognizance, according to court officials. He was also issued a public defender.
Lt. Scott Reeve said Criffield did offer a written confession to Cracker Barrel’s loss prevention manager.
Cracker Barrel officials do not wish to comment on the matter.
