Crash injures 2, driver arrested

FAIRFIELD — The driver of a one-vehicle crash that sent two people to a local hospital is in custody after allegedly having a blood-alcohol level almost twice the legal limit, said Fairfield police Lt. Ken Gerold.

Gerold said around 1:20 a.m. Monday, Robert L. Nixon, 34, of Fairfield was driving north on Chapel Hill Drive when he lost control of his 2012 Honda Accord on a curve and struck a tree near Applewood Drive.

Gerold said the car’s engine caught fire after hitting the tree.

Four passengers were in the vehicle at the time. Joseph Clark, 32, of Hamilton and Jeffrey Paolette, 21, of Middletown were treated at Mercy Hospital Fairfield. Nixon and two other passengers — Nicole Huber, 27, of Fairfield and Justin Hunter, 28, of Cincinnati — were not transported.

Gerold said Nixon was cited for failure to maintain control of a vehicle and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Gerold said a breath test allegedly yielded a 0.143 blood alcohol content for Nixon, which is above Ohio’s 0.08 legal limit.

Nixon is scheduled to appear Wednesday in Fairfield Municipal Court.
