Dad who gave baby ZzzQuil gets early release

The Darke County man whose daughter died after being given ZzzQuil will be released from prison early.

Scott Webber, 30, of Greenville, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for giving his 16-month-old the over-the-counter sleep-aid. He was sentenced in June 2014 to three years in prison.

Today, Judge Jonathan Hein granted Webber early release.

Webber will be placed on supervised probation for five years and will have to serve 150 hours of community service. If he violates the rules of his release, he will be sent back to prison to serve the remainder of his sentence.

His wife, Lauren Jones, served 90 days for one count of endangering children, a felony of the third degree.

The couple’s daughter was found dead in her crib, tangled in a scarf used as a blanket in February 2013. The autopsy revealed she died of asphyxiation and she had been given ZzzQuil, which is not intended for children under 12 years old.
