Dayton police find minivan theft suspect hiding in closet

A man suspected of stealing a minivan was found hiding inside a closet after he first tried to jump from a roof to avoid police.

Dayton police officers around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday spotted a stolen maroon Chrysler Town and Country parked in the 2000 block of Old Troy Pike. The suspect who stole the minivan was identified as Ross Kaufmann of Dayton, who had a parole violation warrant, according to a Dayton police report.

When police looked int the windows of the residence, they spotted Kaufmann. He looked directly at one of the officers, who told him to come to the door, the report stated.

Kaufmann instead ran upstairs and got onto the roof, ready to jump. He came inside when he spotted the other officer, according to the report.

Police eventually found him hiding inside a bedroom closet.

After a struggle, they handcuffed him and reported finding suspect methamphetamine.

He was arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
