Qayoumi was alleged to have been reckless and driving at an excessive speed at 1:09 a.m. Feb. 21 at South Gilmore and Mack roads, county Assistant Prosecutor David Kash said.
Michael C. Willis, 57, of Maineville, and his passenger, Theresa Nicole Cardish, 20, of Norwood, were pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner’s office.
According to police, Willis was traveling north on South Gilmore Road and entered into the intersection at Mack Road on a green light. Qayoumi entered the intersection traveling east on Mack, but police said he ran a red light. The two vehicles collided.
After the impact, Willis’ vehicle traveled northeast across Mack and struck a utility pole. The impact forced the vehicle back onto Mack Road in the eastbound lanes. Qayoumi’s vehicle continued east on Mack Road and stopped in the eastbound lanes.
Debris from the accident struck a third car, which was stopped facing westbound Mack Road, police said. Qayoumi and the driver of the third car, a 17-year-old Cincinnati boy, were taken to Mercy Hospital Fairfield.
Although an arrest warrant for Qayoumi had been errantly issued Wednesday, March 24, he likely would be arraigned April 5 on the charges, Kash said.
A third man was killed in a separate three-vehicle crash in Fairfield less than 90 minutes after the crash Qayoumi was involved in. At 2:23 a.m. Feb. 21, police responded to Ohio 4 near the St. Clair Avenue intersection, where Jose Santo Garcia, 26, of Fairfield, was killed after his vehicle veered left of center and struck two northbound vehicles.
