The driver of a car stolen from Dayton crashed into a Montgomery County Sheriff’s vehicle and a house before trying to run away Thursday afternoon following a pursuit in Harrison Twp.
The driver and three passengers suffered serious injuries and were taken to local hospitals, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
The pursuit began after a sheriff’s detective spotted a black Ford Five Hundred sedan around 3:45 p.m. on Needmore Road that had been reported stolen Wednesday in Dayton. The car turned onto North Dixie Drive, where a marked sheriff’s cruiser activated its lights and sirens. The detective’s car, which had its emergency lights activated, was struck by the stolen car and pushed back. The stolen car then fled south on North Dixie Drive and was chased by several sheriff’s cruisers, the release stated.
The driver lost control on North Dixie Drive and crossed the northbound lanes, striking a house at the corner of North Dixie Drive and Hillsdale Avenue.
The driver, who was not identified, ran away from the wrecked car, but was apprehended a short time later.
It is not clear what charges the driver or passengers may face.
The pursuit and crash remain under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
