ENGLEWOOD: After catching up to a car that had made an improper turn, an officer found the car with its lights off in the back lot of a closed business, but none of the passengers were in the driver’s seat.
The officer first questioned the front-seat passenger if she was driving, and she said, “Not me. I don’t have a driver’s license.”
Realizing this could go on for a while, the officer told everyone in the car they could be charged with obstructing official business, which is when three of the four pointed to the male in the middle back seat, fingering him as the driver.
When the officer asked him to vacate the vehicle, the male asked if he could retrieve his shoes, which were on the driver’s seat floorboard.
One of the other passengers said the driver had “freaked out” when he saw the police because he did not have a driver’s license. The officer also was informed by the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center the driver was on probation for pending charges of criminal trespass and obstructing official business.
The driver was taken to the Montgomery County Juvenile Justice Center in Dayton.
