Scroggins was pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital on Nov. 22, after he was shot four times in the 100 block of Willowwood Drive on Nov. 21.
Dayton police received a call sometime before Scroggins’ funeral service started on Saturday, from a person claiming that there was a possibility that some incident would occur during the funeral, Dayton Sgt. Bill Keller said.
Police crews were sent to the area shortly before 1 p.m, but found nothing, Keller said.
Then all of sudden, police dispatchers started receiving cell phone calls about at least one fight occurring inside the Cincinnati Street address, Keller said.
Sgt. Charles Anderson, who sent officers to the scene, described the incident as a “small scrimmage” between two people.
No arrests, injuries or gunfire occurred, Anderson said.
The church fight involved at least two males, choking and wrestling, according to police scanner traffic at 4 p.m. No guns are believed to have been fired during the funeral, according to police.
“When (police) arrived (at the church) the people who were the main problem already left,” Keller said.
Anderson said the fight dispersed once officers arrived at the scene.
Anderson believes the fight was somehow related to Scroggins’ homicide.
No homicide suspects had been identified as of Saturday afternoon.
No other information about the fight was immediately available.
