2 hospitalized after overnight shooting

DAYTON — Two men in their 20s ended up in Miami Valley Hospital with gunshot wounds after an overnight shooting outside JPs Lounge, 514 N. Gettysburg Avenue at around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8., according to Sgt. Richard Blommel of the Dayton Police Department.

Blommel said they spent the night questioning the victims but could not get much information they could verify. Blommel said at least three people were involved in an altercation “possibly over drugs,” that led to the shooting. He said two Wilberforce University students, Wardell Benton and Ramone Parks, told him they drove to Dayton supposedly to buy some weed. They hooked up with Ryan Williams of Dayton at the lounge, where all three supposedly got into one car, he said. “Somewhere somebody tried to rob somebody,” he said, and the shooting occurred. Parks and Williams ended up in the hospital, he said. Parks first went to Grandview Hospital and Williams to Good Samaritan Hospital, but both were transferred to Miami Valley Hospital, he said. Both men accused the other of shooting them, he said. Both had wounds to the chest and one also had a wound to the arm.
