2 hurt in Preble County head-on collision

A 66-year-old woman is in critical condition after a head-on collision on State Route 122 left both drivers trapped in their vehicles.

The woman, a Camden resident, drove left of center in a Chevrolet Malibu and hit an oncoming Ford Fusion on 122 at Greenbush Road sometime after 4:30 Tuesday afternoon, said Trooper Kevin Brubaker, Ohio Highway Patrol.

Both drivers were trapped in the wreckage, Brubaker said.

Rescue crews had to cut the top off the woman's car, which ended up in a grassy culvert after the collision.

She was taken to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight.

In the other car, an 80-year-old male from Somerville, was freed from his vehicle after crews had to cut off the driver's side door.

He was taken to Atrium Medical Center in Middletown, where he was treated and released.

Speed was not a factor, Brubaker said, noting that the woman will be cited at some point.

The accident may have been attributed to her being a drowsy driver, he said, but the official cause of the accident remains under investigation.
