Judge sentences two Baltimore Street Gang members

HAMILTON — Two more gang members are off the streets of Middletown — and one for a long time.

Butler County Common Pleas Court Judge Keith Spaeth sentenced two members of the Baltimore Street Gang to prison Thursday. Ricardo Robertson, a gang leader, is going to prison for 16 years on aggravated robbery charges with gang and gun specifications. Spaeth said he must serve the mandatory three years each on the gun and gang specifications before he begins his 10 year sentence for aggravated robbery.

The judge also imposed a $10,000 fine, court costs and said Robertson will be on post release control for five years after he leaves prison.

Robertson and his accomplice Tryvale Redmond held up two people at gunpoint for Ecstasy pills. Redmond, who will spend three years in prison, pleaded guilty to robbery and a gang charge.

He didn’t have a gun and wasn’t found with drugs, according to police. Spaeth sentenced him to two years on the robbery charge and one year for the gang specification.

Neither man offered any information in mitigation of their crimes, but Redmond’s attorney David Washington said after the sentencing his client has never had any serious brushes with the law previously and the plea deal was fortuitous.

“Considering he was originally charged with aggravated robbery with a three-year gun specification plus the gang, he was looking at 18 years,” he said. “He got three.”

The prosecutor’s office charged seven gang members, in connection with other crimes, with the gang specification. Butler County Prosecutor Mike Gmoser, who has said he set out to “dismantle and dismember” the gang, said there are now two outstanding cases.
