Kettering bank robber caught in minutes

KETTERING — City police tracked down a suspect in Kettering’s first bank robbery in more than a year in minutes Monday, and they believe he is linked to two Sunday robberies in the city.

Ricky B. Patterson, 54, a recently released three-time convicted robber, was arrested for robbing the PNC Bank at 4025 Wilmington Pike, in front of the Meijer store, said Kettering police Officer Michael Burke.

Police said Patterson also fit the description of the suspect sought in two other robberies at Kettering stores Sunday.

The United Dairy Farmers store at Woodman Drive and Dorothy Lane was robbed at 2:50 a.m. Sunday, and Burke said surveillance video “clearly shows” Patterson passing a note to the store clerk demanding money.

Patterson is also believed to be the same man who robbed the Simply Scrapbooks store on Dorothy Lane just east of Woodman Drive, Burke said.

In Monday’s robbery, police said a white male in his 50s walked into the bank about 1 p.m. and demanded money from a teller. Burke said the suspect never displayed a weapon and fled on foot north on Wilmington Pike.

Police swarmed the area, near one of Kettering’s busiest intersections, and found Patterson at Monkeez Grill & Tavern about two blocks north of the bank, Burke said.

Patterson was taken into custody without incident, and Burke said he had the cash from the bank in his pants pocket when apprehended .

Burke said no weapon was displayed in any of the three robberies and no one was injured.

Patterson, whose last known address was Galewood Drive in Kettering, has previous convictions for robbery (three times), possession of cocaine and receiving stolen property, according to Montgomery County court records. He was sentenced to eight to 25 years in prison for a 1992 aggravated robbery, three years for a 1999 robbery and four years for a 2003 robbery.

He was convicted of felony theft in Greene County in January 2010 and sentenced to 18 months in prison. Burke said Patterson had just been released in the past few weeks.
