Man defends himself for erratic driving

VANDALIA – Belligerent and with an alcoholic smell, a motorist was stopped on National Road at 1:18 a.m. for several marked lane violations, and narrowly missing driving through a fast food restaurant’s landscaping.

Eyes glassy and bloodshot, the man said he had not been drinking, but wouldn’t submit to field sobriety or breath tests, either.

He was of no help with a driver’s license since he didn’t have one, and couldn’t remember his Social Security number.

He did have an empty open can of Busch Light in his center console, and he told the officer it was his constitutional right to stay in his vehicle.

He found out differently, was handcuffed, briefly tussled with police and was cited for OVI, driving under suspension, seatbelt and marked lanes.

Transportation was provided to the Montgomery County jail, and no landscaping was ruined.
