Man detained minutes after Great Clips robbery remains in jail

UPDATE @ 6:30 p.m. (Sept. 29): A 37-year-old man stopped by sheriff's deputies minutes after a robbery this morning at Great Clips, 1036 Miamisburg Centerville Road, remains in the county jail.

Michael Joseph Newman was arrested just before 11 a.m. and questioned at Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office headquarters in downtown Dayton. Newman was booked into jail about 12:30 p.m. pending the formal filing of a robbery charge.

According to the preliminary investigation by the sheriff’s office, a male entered the business through the front door wearing denim jeans and a gray hoodie with the hood pulled over his head.

The man demanded money from the register as he kept a hand inside the right pocket of the hoodie, making the employee believe he had a gun.

The male left the business on foot, heading west. Deputies dispatched on the robbery report encountered him at Miamisburg Centerville (state Route 725) and Lyons roads and took him into custody.

According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation of the robbery is continuing.
