The sentencing for the man who pleaded guilty to setting fire to the former Koneta Hotel has been continued.

The restitution amount for Wesley Michael Slaughter is still being determined, which is why his sentencing has been continued until Oct. 3.

FIRST REPORT:

A man who pleaded guilty to setting fire to the former Koneta Hotel in downtown Wapakoneta is scheduled to be sentenced at 9:30 a.m.

Wesley Michael Slaughter, 20, could face up to 19 years in prison for five counts of aggravated arson. The charges are for setting fire to the hotel on Dec. 23, 2018, which displaced dozens of occupants.

All of the occupants were able to escape the fire, but the structural damage ultimately led to the demolition of the building.

Slaughter lived in the hotel at the time.

Initially, Slaughter pleaded not guilty due to insanity, but changed his plea to guilty in July.
