Man with criminal history faces new charges

A man released from prison last year after serving time for receiving stolen property is back in jail on burglary charges after allegedly breaking into a Lakeview Drive home.

Bellbrook police arrested Matthew Golden, 30, on a probable cause warrant for felony burglary Monday afternoon. Detectives said he broke into a Lakeview home, where a 16-year-old girl came home to find a man in her bedroom last December.

“The evidence showed that Mr. Golden was involved in that burglary,” said Detective Keith Salyers.

If convicted, Golden could face up to eight years in prison, according to Salyers.

Neighbors said they were happy to see Golden arrested and charged with the December crime.

“We’ll be a little happier in this neighborhood that he’s not around,” said Donna Bogue, a Lakeview Drive resident who is now part of a new neighborhood watch program that was started because of recent burglaries. “I think it’s great.”

Golden was arrested when a K-9 located him on South Linda Drive shortly after the Lakeview incident in December was reported, and he allegedly possessed property from a previous burglary reported at Bellbrook city councilwoman Elaine Middlestetter’s Eckworth Drive residence. Golden also possessed criminal tools, Salyers said.

Court documents show the 30-year-old was convicted for receiving stolen property in 2012 and was sentenced to 24 months in prison for that crime. He also has numerous arrests, ranging from drug-related offenses to thefts, according to jail records.

Salyers said that since the Lakeview burglary, Golden also was arrested for allegedly breaking into the Ziebart store in Miami Twp. last week.

The detective said residents are thankful Golden is off the street in Bellbrook.

“He has upset a lot of city residents, probably about half,” Salyers said.

Golden’s bond was set at $50,000.
