Masked gunman robs BP gas station in Springfield

A gunman wearing a mask got away with cash during a robbery Thursday night at a BP station in Springfield.

The robber, who  had a black gun, took an undetermined amount of money during the holdup reported just before 9 p.m. at the business at 2300 S. Limestone St., Springfield police said.

The robber was described as a man with a thin build standing between 5 feet 7 and 5 feet 8 inches wearing a blue hoodie, white mask and black pants.

He stuffed the cash inside his hoodie pockets, according to initial reports.

He was last seen running north in an alley behind Hardee’s. No injuries were reported, and police were searching for the suspect.

The robbery was at least the second involving a gas station in Springfield this week.

Early Monday, a man with a gun robbed Speedway at 405 S. Burnett Road.  According to a police report, the suspect pointed the gun at an employee, yelled at him to give him the money. He also threatened the worker, saying “I’ll shoot you. Do you want to die,” the report stated.

No one has been arrested in that case and it’s not clear whether the robberies are connected.
