Mercer County bank warns on phishing scam

A phishing scam involving the St. Henry Bank has officials there and the Mercer County Sheriff's Office warning the bank's customers tonight.

Officials with the bank, 231 E. Main St., said Thursday they were notified that a phishing scam involving the bank has occurred.

Bank officials are asking that if residents receive a phone call, the caller will state that the resident's St. Henry Bank debit-ATM card is locked.

Sheriff Jeff Grey said that according to the investigation by his office, the scam involves an automated system that is calling phones.

"This is a scam. Do not provide any information and hang up the phone immediately," bank officials said in a statement to customers released Thursday night.

"Your accounts at the St. Henry Bank are secure," the statement also read.

Grey said his office has fielded several calls from potential victims and is warning them and anyone else who gets a call to not give out information.

"We do not want anyone entering their information for the scammers," Grey said.

You're asked to call the sheriff's office at (419) 586-7724 to report any suspicious calls asking you about your accounts at the bank.
