Mom in Takota Hasty case sentenced

Crystal Laurel was sentenced to six years in prison in court today.

INITIAL REPORT:

The mother in the case surrounding the death of 19-month-old Takota Hasty is expected to be sentenced this morning.

Crystal Laurel pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, child endangering, tampering with evidence and permitting child abuse in September 2013.

Hasty died April 8, 2013, after Laurel and Dustin Rybak used makeup to conceal the injuries to the infant.

Hasty was brought to Dayton Children’s Hospital in complete cardiopulmonary arrest and had numerous bruises, abrasions and a number of burn marks, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

Hasty was place on life support, but had no brain activity and was removed from life support.

Rybak was sentenced in March to 18 years in prison for causing the death to Hasty.
