FIRST REPORT (Jan. 13)

A 52-year-old Morrow man is to be sentenced to prison in March after he admitted in court to a home marijuana grow op where a drug task force seized 6,202 grams of marijuana.

Jimmy Oakes pleaded guilty Wednesday in Warren County Common Pleas Court to felony charges of drug cultivation, trafficking and possession as well as child endangering and possession of criminal tools, county Prosecutor David Fornshell said in a prepared statement.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the Warren County Drug Task Force received information on May 21, 2014, that Oakes was growing marijuana at his home on Osceola Road in Morrow.

Using a search warrant, detectives found an active marijuana grow in a room in Oakes’ basement, which included 49 marijuana plants, a grow light, and other items used to grow marijuana. Detectives also found 13 bags of marijuana in a basement freezer.

In Oakes’ master bedroom, law enforcement found three mason jars containing marijuana, two digital scales, and a bag of marijuana seeds.

A source informed law enforcement that Oakes sold marijuana out of mason jars. The drug task force recovered 6,202.7 grams of marijuana from the home.

While Oakes operated the grow operation and sold marijuana out of his home, his girlfriend’s two minor children resided there. Upon investigation, the task force learned the children’s bedrooms were located directly above the grow op in the basement.

Oakes is to be sentenced March 1, the prosecutor’s office said.
