New father shot to death just months after being shot multiple times

DAYTON — The father of a 6-day-old girl was fatally shot Friday afternoon at the University Heights apartments, just months after being hit multiple times in a shooting at a downtown nightclub.

The victim was Jamahl Moore, 22, and an autopsy was scheduled for today, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office said.

On July 5, 2010, someone used a large caliber handgun to shoot Moore multiple times during a fight in front of the A List Lounge on South Ludlow Street downtown.

At the time, police said it was a miracle Moore — who was hit in both legs, his groin, back and arm — survived.

On Friday, Kizzy Howard, 32, Moore’s first cousin, rushed to the scene after hearing about his death from family members .

She said it is all the more tragic since Moore survived being shot last year only to die by gunfire months later.

“This is a damn shame,” she said, noting that Moore’s 6-day-old daughter would now grow up without her father.

The shooting occurred about 1:30 p.m. Police found Moore inside the apartment complex .

Investigators spoke with potential witnesses, but want anyone with information about the shooting to come forward, Maj. Pat Welsh said.

People at the scene told police they saw three men fleeing the scene in a vehicle shortly after they heard gunfire.

A small group of people, some crying and others hysterical with grief, remained outside the complex at 4 p.m.

Nearby residents said they heard the shots .

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call (937) 333-COPS.
