4 officers, 2 paramedics must restrain man after attack

OXFORD TWP. — A 20-year-old Oxford man was hospitalized and arrested over the weekend after allegedly attacking an officer, according to Oxford Twp. police Chief Michael Goins.

Police and paramedics were called at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27 to the 6000 block of Stillwell-Beckett Road.

The first officer on the scene parked his vehicle at the end of the snowy driveway and began walking to the residence when a man approached him screaming, Goins said.

The man allegedly attempted to tackle the officer, unsnapped his holster and tried to remove his weapon, Goins said.

It took four officers and two medics to restrain the man, Goins said.

Caleb Beers was hospitalized and charged with felonious assault on an officer and resisting arresting. He was also charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery for allegedly attempting to take an officer’s weapon by force, Goins said.

Beers was later taken to Butler County Jail and released at 11:38 a.m. the same day after posting a bond of $25,880, according to jail records.
