Patrol: Mother and son face felony drug charges

A mother and her son from Chicago are facing felony drug charges after they were stopped on I-70 in Montgomery County, allegedly with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of marijuana.

The Ohio Highway Patrol announced the bust today, stating troopers seized 110 pounds of pot during the Nov. 20, 8:27 p.m. traffic stop of a 2003 Mitsubishi sport utility vehicle.

The pot, compressed into 28 shrink-wrapped bundles in three brown paper bags, was estimated to be worth nearly $500,000, according to the release.

The driver, Jose F. Hurtado, 37, and his mother Maria Hurtado, 77, were arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of felony marijuana possession, according to the release.

The two were not listed as inmates today.

If convicted, the pair face up to eight years in prison and up to a $15,000 fine.
