PCSO: Drug suspect went against his word

A Darke County man may have avoided a felony drug charge if he had done what he said he would do.

Bryan S. Adkins, 35, of Hollandsburg, was stopped by a Preble County deputy Saturday afternoon and issued a citation for driving under a drug suspension, according to a release from the Preble County Sheriff’s Office.

Adkins was let go on the condition he would get someone to pick him up.

He didn’t do that. Instead, the deputy spotted him driving again and this time Adkins allegedly sped away from the traffic stop.

The pursuit lasted about four minutes before Adkins crashed at Shields and Swishers Mill roads.

He bailed and tried to run but was caught, Tased for not complying with orders and apprehended, according to the release.

Authorities said officers found two bags of cocaine that the suspect discarded while running away.

Adkins is being held in the Preble County Jail on suspicion of tampering with evidence, felony drug possession and failure to comply with order from a police officer.
