Pickup goes airborne into tree; driver runs

A Camden man whose pickup truck went airborne into a tree head-on was able to flee from the wreckage, troopers say.

Harold S. Collins, 57, apparently lost control of his Ford F150 and went off the road to the left and struck a fence in the 3900 block of Camden West Elkton Road in Preble County, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

After striking the fence, he "went airborne and head-on into a tree," said Trooper Jason Williams of the patrol's Dayton Post. Collins, who was not wearing a seatbelt, then ran away from the crash scene, Williams said.

Collins was caught later and has been summoned into court. He faces charges including failing to stay at the scene of a crash. Willams said alcohol is a possible factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
