PNC Bank robber identified

DAYTON — One man was arrested Wednesday shortly after he robbed a PNC Bank at the Westown Shopping Center in the 4300 block of West Third Street, according to police.

Lt. Mark Varvel, head of the central investigations unit, said Antonio Ross, 32, entered the bank around 11:30 a.m. and gave the teller “a rambling note.” The teller gave Ross a package of money that included a dye pack, and he walked out of the bank, the lieutenant said.

The teller called 911 and relayed information as Ross walked across the parking lot and into another business, Hahn’s Sportswear, where he was purchasing a pair of shoes when officers nabbed him less than 10 minutes after the robbery, Varvel said. The dye pack was never activated.

Ross is being held in the Montgomery County Regional Jail, awaiting an initial court appearance.
