Police: Pepper spray subdues drunk combative man

Police used a Taser and pepper spray to subdue a highly-intoxicated man who was trying to get in the car of a female who reportedly didn’t know him.

Travis Clyburn, 25, was arrested early Saturday morning in the 100 block of North Jefferson Street, according to the Dayton police report.

Police said officers were called to the location by a woman who reported a strange man was leaning against her daughter’s car and he had tried to get in it.

The suspect “took an aggressive stance” when one officer tried to relieve him of his pocket knife, according to the report.

A struggle ensued as the suspect wouldn’t put his hands behind his back, according to the report.

The officers used a Taser unsuccessfully, then deployed pepper spray, which had the desired effect, according to the report.

Police said before Clyburn was taken to jail, paramedics were called to the scene and helped to wash out the spray out of his eyes.
