Rolling meth lab stopped on base property

Wright Patterson Air Force Base security crews shut down a portion of Colonel Glenn Highway for hours Sunday to neutralize a suspected traveling meth lab.

WPAFB police, along with mutual aid from Riverside, took a male and female suspect in custody for questioning from the scene of the incident.

Police on base conducted a traffic stop around 11:00 a.m. Sunday. Military police stopped a pickup hauling a trailer for a faulty license plate and siding from the connected trailer coming loose, police said.

During a search of the trailer, a container that held some sort of methamphetamine was found inside, police said.

Base police called in mutual assistance from Riverside police and fire during the search and investigation. Police and fire dismantled the lab safely.

“(The trailer) was similar to a homemade bomb and could cause a lot of grief,” said one of the Riverside police officers on the scene of the stop.

If charged, the suspects currently in custody could face federal charges because the stop took place on federal property.

The Air Force and police will conduct an investigation into the incident.
