Security video captures man setting fire to home

A Springfield man came home Friday to find a window busted out and the smell of gasoline in his house on Washington St.

He called police who discovered a charred area on a corner of the man’s home and a lighter laying in the grass, according to a police report.

The man told police he’d been having an issue with another man over a girl.

The homeowner and the officer reviewed a home security video which showed a black Ford Mustang pulling up to the house, a man getting out and pooring liquid on to the house. A large fire ball then ignited and the driver took off in the Mustang.

The victim identified the man in the video as 20 year old Gary Newby.

Newby is facing aggravated arson charges. He appeared in a Clark County courtroom Tuesday morning. Newby is being held on a $25,000 bond in the Clark County jail.
