Sonar used in search for gun used in Warren County deputy shooting

Members of a special underwater search team are searching a lake in Warren County this morning for the gun used in last month’s active shooter incident.

Team Watters Sonar Search & Recovery Team is searching Landen Lake where Mohammed Laghaoui told investigators he threw an automatic rifle after a shootout at the Orchards of Landen apartment complex off US 22.

Laghaoui is accused of shooting his father and Deputy Katie Barnes before throwing the gun in the nearby lake.

“We’re trying to make sure we’ve exhausted every possible way,” said Major Steve Arrasmith, chief investigator.

The non-profit team, based in Moro, Ill., works at no charge. It is expected work Wednesday in Warren County before heading to another underwater search.
