According to a Dayton Police Department report, the youth told officers at around 8:30 p.m. he was at Westwood Park, 611 Leland Ave., playing with a small silver gun with a slide. He said that as he was trying to put the gun inside his waistband it accidentally went off. He told officers he hopped home and went to his room. He eventually woke his aunt around 2 a.m., saying he needed to go to the hospital.
According to the police report, the teen refused to cooperate with detectives. He said the gun belonged to someone else. He would not say where he put the gun or who he was with at the park.
