Teen identified as Boyer Street homicide victim

Dayton Police continue to investigate a homicide that occurred over the weekend in the 200 block of Boyer Street.

The victim, who was reportedly shot in the head, was identified by police Monday as 18-year-old Brandon Shells Jr. The motive for the slaying remains unknown.

"We have to go back and figure out why he was a victim," said Dayton Police Sgt. Richard Blommel.

Police were dispatched at about 2:15 p.m. Sunday on reports of a male lying in a pool of blood in the yard of a home on that street. Shells was found in between two houses, one of them vacant, by a neighbor walking down the street. He did not live at either of those residences.

Neighbors told police they heard shots fired in the area on Saturday night. According to the report, the shooting may have occurred as early as 9:15 p.m. Saturday.
