INITIAL REPORT
Three people are in custody after a car chase led to a crash and a foot chase in the 3900 block of Cornell Woods Drive in Dayton around 12:30 a.m., according to Dayton Police Sgt. Creigee Coleman.
Coleman said that officers found a stolen SUV with three people inside, and when they approached, the vehicle fled.

The SUV crashed shortly afterward, striking a pole near an apartment complex.
Coleman said that the people in the SUV ran on foot. The driver ran around behind an apartment building and officers saw the driver discard a gun.
All three suspects were caught and officers recovered the gun.
Coleman stressed that the officers involved were chasing the suspects at night and that the driver was armed with a gun, but they were able to take the suspects into custody without gunfire.

Coleman also stressed the importance of receiving tips and help from the public, such as the call that led to these arrests.
"Without the public seeing something, saying something, and calling the regional dispatch center or calling the Dayton police, a lot of these crimes would go unsolved,” he said.
