Tipp City robbery suspect in jail on $100K bond

A Vandalia man accused of an armed robbery in Tipp City remains in jail on a $100,000 cash bond.

Donald William Johnson, 48, was arrested Monday by Vandalia police on a warrant out of Tipp City. He is in the Miami County Jail on a felony charge of aggravated robbery and a misdemeanor charge of assault.

Tipp City police accuse Johnson of stealing a purse from an 88-year-old woman Aug. 11 as she walked out of Family Dollar, 930 W. Main St.

According to police, Johnson asked her for $5 to buy heroin.

When she refused, he grabbed her purse and ran. A maintenance man tackled Johnson and recovered the purse, police said. The maintenance man also bit the suspect on the arm as they wrestled on the ground, police said.
