Urbana police were assisted by agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Jerald L. Myers was found dead inside his home, at 536 block of South Kenton St., at about 8:55 p.m. Sunday.
Police initially arrested Christopher Myers for actions he took against his brother, Brian Myers, 36, of West Reynolds Street, during the discovery their father’s death.
Christopher Myers was booked into the Tri-County Regional Jail and initially charged with suspicion of felonious assault and domestic violence and had his bond set at $50,000.
He is scheduled this morning to make his first appearance, via a video fee, in Champaign Municipal Court.
Officers responded to the Kenton Street home shortly before 9 p.m. on a report of a person injured. Lingrell said officers discovered Jerald Myers’ body in the upstairs portion of the home.
Police waited until Monday night to file charges against Christopher Myers because they needed to process evidence from the crime scene and receive results from the forensic autopsy. Lingrell said police investigators and crime scene specialists worked through the night processing evidence.
Detectives interviewed several individuals who live in the home and several who showed up after the deceased was discovered.
Neighbors who know the family called the events Sunday shocking and said the neighborhood is a very friendly and quiet place to live.
Myers death is the first homicide in Urbana in more than two years.
