Two people were killed near Yellow Springs after what the Greene County sheriff called a shootout in a potential ambush.

Deputies were dispatched around 11:10 a.m. Wednesday to 3443 Grinnell Road in Miami Twp. near Yellow Springs. There, according to Sheriff Gene Fischer, they found two people dead.

Here’s what we know so far about the shooting:

The shooter’s ex-wife was one of the killed

Fischer said the incident began when a man with a gun approached a vehicle as it pulled into the driveway. Fischer said the homeowner was inside the vehicle and opened fire at the man with the gun in his driveway.

The homeowner — who has a CCW permit — then shot and killed his ex-wife, identified as Hollywood stunt woman Cheryl Sanders, who reportedly drove to the scene soon after the first shooting, the sheriff said. She was armed with a gun and exchanged gunfire with the homeowner, Fischer said.

Sanders’ husband, Robert Reed Sanders, also was killed in the shooting.

The sheriff said the two people who lived in the home were alive.

A man who identified himself to the 911 dispatcher can be heard in the call alerting law enforcement that he shot two people who he says came onto his property and threatened to kill him and his wife.

“I shot them, they came up and had a gun pointed at my wife’s head,” the man told the dispatcher while asking for authorities to get to his 3443 Grinnell Road home as quickly as possible.

Home valued at more than $1 million

Authorities responded to 3443 Grinnell Road for the shooting and authorities were staged out front of the property for hours Wednesday.

According to the Greene County Auditor’s website, the home was appraised at more than $1.1 million. The home is in the Miami Twp. tax district, the auditor’s website says.

The website lists the homeowner as “FATY LLC.”

The property has been listed for sale since September, with a reported asking price of $3.9 million, and had been featured on DaytonDailyNews.com.

Scanner traffic from the incident, however, indicates a chaotic scene.

“Have a very hysterical female on the line saying someone’s shooting at her husband,” a dispatcher said to responding officers.
