Woman shot on Ruth Ave., 4 others detained for questioning

The victim in this shooting is a 19-year-old woman from Dayton, according to the police report. She had been taken to Miami Valley Hospital where her condition is not listed, according to hospital officials.

FIRST REPORT

Dayton police and homicide detectives are investigating after a woman was shot on Ruth Avenue early Monday morning.

Officers and medics were dispatched to the 500 block of Ruth Avenue around 1 a.m. on first reports of a car crash with shots fired. Not long after the initial report, the call was changed to a shooting with one person hit by the gunfire.

Police said the victim, only identified as a woman, was transported to Miami Valley Hospital, but her condition and severity of injuries sustained was unknown.

Due to the woman’s unknown condition, investigators requested homicide detectives to the scene to investigate the incident.

Investigators said the victim and suspect knew each other and added there was no threat to the general public.

Police said they believe at least five people were involved in the incident, and four have been detained for questioning. Officers did not indicate if they believe they have detained the shooter, nor did they release any suspect or suspect vehicle description.
