Sinclair offering scholarships to help students during coronavirus

Sinclair Community College is providing hundreds of thousands of dollars in summer term scholarships to students already enrolled and prospective students, officials said.

Sinclair President Steve Johnson said the college will continue to engage admitted and prospective students by scheduling numerous virtual information sessions and summer orientation initiatives.

“Our faculty and staff have also dedicated time and effort into creating an online-learning environment that continues to engage students,” he said. “We want to remind our students that we will do our best to continually assess and re-adjust our programs ensuring that we meet the needs of our students.”

Sinclair’s partnership with a group of seven universities to provide a transfer option from the school’s associate degree program to a bachelor’s degree is even more important this year due to the chaos caused by the coronavirus pandemic, school officials said.

Since the transition from traditional to online-only instruction on March 23 due to the pandemic, more than 90% of course offerings at Sinclair have been made available through remote and distance learning opportunities.

“We have partnerships with dozens of institutions in the region including enhanced partnerships with the top receiving institutions chosen by our students to provide a seamless transfer option from a Sinclair associate degree to a university bachelor’s degree,” said spokeswoman, Deena John.

The enhanced partner universities include, Miami, Wright State, Franklin, Ohio University, Antioch, University of Dayton and the University of Cincinnati.

Through the Ohio Transfer Module, 100 plus general education courses recognized by the state of Ohio, that are completed at Sinclair College, are transferable to any public institution of higher education in Ohio.

The University of Dayton-Sinclair Academy allows students to seamlessly move into a University of Dayton program of study after earning an associate’s degree or completing 30 hours of pathway course work for engineering majors at Sinclair.

Sinclair and Wright State have a long standing partnership through the Wright Path program. This is a transfer partnership between Sinclair Community College and Wright State University designed to allow students to transfer seamlessly to Wright State following completion of their associate’s degree from Sinclair.

In order to continue to meet student needs and to protect the public health, online instruction will continue into the summer term at Sinclair.

Students have access to over 1,000 courses available online to help them get a head start on the fall semester, finish compulsory general education course requirements and complete extra credits to accelerate graduation.
