Sinclair cancels classes, goes on ‘special break’ due to coronavirus

Sinclair Community College has canceled all classes until March 23.

When classes resume, they all will be online-only until further notice at all locations, according to a notice on the college’s website.

Students just returned from spring break, which was March 2-8. The class hiatus is called a “special break” by the college.

Gov. Mike DeWine urged all institutions of higher learning to suspend in-person instruction amid concerns of the new coronavirus, COVID-19.

The governor declared a state of emergency Monday after three Ohioans in Cuyahoga County tested positive for the illness.

Sinclair is not alone in canceling classes.

The University of Dayton ordered students to leave campus by 6 p.m. Wednesday, which is three days ahead of its spring break.

Once classes resume March 23, UD courses will be online for at least the next two weeks.

Wright State University canceled in-person classes for the rest of the week, with remote learning resuming on Monday.

Miami University suspended face-to-face instruction through April 12 at its U.S. campuses, and will evaluate laboratory, studio and performance classes.
