Days remain to vote for a local man who is among 10 remaining in a national firefighters chili cooking contest.

Gabbard's recipe can be voted on once daily per person through July 21 at https://hormelfirehousechilicontest.prizelogic.com/en-us/Gallery, according to the contest's website.

“Register and vote for Rick G. once a day,” according to a fire district Facebook post. “Share this post so we can get Rick every vote possible to get closer to the grand prize” of $10,000.

Gabbard said he stumbled upon the recipe through experimentation in preparation for a chili cook-off at the Germantown Free and Accepted Mason Lodge # 257, according to the contest’s website.

“I thought what better way to see how it really tastes than to take it to the firehouse,” according to the website. “When I did, the guys loved it, and I went ahead and entered it in the cook-off and won.”
