Road name change plan to honor Fuyao

Fuyao Glass America Inc. will be changing its primary address should Moraine rename a portion of a road in its honor.

The company promising to bring 1,550 full-time jobs and an estimated $62 million annual payroll to the city has been operating from the designation of 2801 W. Stroop Road.

However, the Chinese auto glass maker planning to invest an estimated $360 million at its 1.4 million square foot plant at the former General Motors site would change that address to Fuyao Avenue under a proposal the Moraine City Council is considering Thursday night.

The change would involve the portion of Hoyle Place from Encrete Lane to Kettering Boulevard, Moraine Economic Development Director Michael Davis said. There are no addresses on that part of Hoyle, which was renamed in 2010 after the GM plant closed, he added.

The company asked Moraine officials in a letter sent last month to consider the change. However, the request stemmed from earlier talks suggested by the city, according to Davis.

“Early on, I had discussions with Fuyao letting them know we were supportive in finding ways to acknowledge and show appreciation for their commitment to our city, region and state,” he stated in an email. “We believe this dedication is one way in honoring that commitment.

“We are proud to provide this opportunity and look forward to a long and growing partnership with Fuyao,” he added.

There were no objections to the name change during a public hearing Moraine City Council held last month. Thursday night it is considering legislation to make the switch.

Should council approve the measure, the company “will be utilizing the Fuyao Avenue entrance as its primary point of entry for administration, customers, guests and the public,” according to Davis.

Meanwhile, Fuyao would like to maintain the Stroop address as a secondary one because it “has conducted significant business and filed numerous permit/applications to relevant authorities” using that designation, according to the letter from Rebecca Ruan-O’Shaugnessy, director of legal affairs and administrative services for Fuyao.
