Springboro has canceled more events due to COVID-19 concerns, but plans to set off fireworks on Independence Day.

“Following the direction provided by the Governor’s Office regarding social distancing and gatherings of no more than 10 people, the city has reviewed the summer activities lineup,” according to a city announcement.

“The first three bands scheduled for the summer series on June 26, July 3 and July 7 are cancelled. Concerts have been scheduled every Tuesday and Friday evening through July 31. We’ll have a new update on June 10.”

The city will make week-by week decisions on other Concerts in the Park events and provide bands a 30-day notice in keeping with contracts.

“Once we are given the go-ahead by the State, we’ll start the series and open the amphitheater in a way that is focused on the health and safety of our performers, guests and staff, “the announcement added.

Mayor John Agenbroad warned more cancellations could be coming after the city canceled Memorial Day events.

“Who knows what the new order is going to be,” Agenbroad said in April.

The annual fireworks display on July 4 at Springboro High School is still scheduled, although details on this event will be coming out in coming weeks.

The city is still planning to open the expanded Kacie Jane Park, featuring a splash pad and playgrounds “as soon as the governor permits”.

On Saturday, Oct. 3, the city plans to hold its rescheduled, third annual Boro BBQ Fest.

City park walking paths and bikeways are open, but playgrounds remain closed. Park restrooms will open June 1 and will be sanitized daily.
