Brunner will complete Kuhn’s term representing Ward 2. The term expires on Dec. 31, 2017.
Cindy Stitzman, an 18-year resident and member of the U.S. Air Force, was the other candidate. The council conducted interviews and discussed the candidates privately before picking Brunner.
“Both of them were excellent candidates,” Mayor John Agenbroad said. “We couldn’t have gone wrong with either one.”
Brunner said he and his family have lived in Springboro for 16 years. In addition to his work with the local Y, before moving into the Dayton office, Brunner is known for helping establishing a Miracle League Field in Springboro for kids with special needs.
“I’m always looking for ways to serve the community I live in,” he said Friday. “This is one more opportunity.”
Brunner said this was his first time in elected office. He said he would take time to educate himself about the office and local government before pursuing individual initiatives.
“It’s more important for me to do a lot of listening. Ask questions,” he said.
He declined to say whether or not he would run for the office in 2017.
