Amish bicyclist struck, killed in Logan County

An Amish bicyclist died of his injuries Friday night after he was struck by a pickup truck trying to pass another vehicle.

Troopers and medics were dispatched to the 9500 block of Ohio 638 around 10 p.m. Friday on a report of a crash involving two vehicles and a bicycle.

A pickup truck driven by Jessie Rae Stevens, 29, of Belle Center, Ohio, attempted to pass another vehicle traveling north on Ohio 638. While in the process of passing, Stevens struck a bicyclist head-on as he was pedaling south, before crashing into another vehicle, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Bicyclist Nathan Lee Yoder, 29, of Rushsylvania, Ohio, was flown to Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, where he died from his injuries.

Neither Stevens nor the other driver involved were injured.

The crash remains under investigation, but troopers say neither speed nor alcohol were factors. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, but troopers say Yoder was not wearing a helmet when he was struck.
