The show, at 7:30 p.m. July 30-31 and Aug. 1 in the high school auditorium, is set in an island paradise during World War II and features two parallel love stories, both threatened by prejudice and war.
Amanda Carter will portray Nellie, a spunky nurse from Arkansas, who falls in love with a mature French planter, Emile, portrayed by Andrew Koslow.
When Nellie learns that the mother of his children was an island native, prejudices she grew up with kick in and she refuses his marriage proposal.
Meanwhile, Lt. Joe Cable, played by Collin Gossel, finds himself in love with a Tonkinese girl, Liat, played by Tricia Christiensen.
Like Nellie, his prejudices cause him to turn away from Liat.
When Emile accompanies Joe on a dangerous mission that claims Joe’s life, Nellie realizes that life is too short not to seize her own chance for happiness.
